The location
The villa is located on the popular and well established urbanization
of Las Atalayas, just 2 km to the centre of Peñiscola and the beaches
of the Costa Azahar. It is a 20-minute stroll to the centre of the
village and as you’ll have the choice of a wide range of shops, bars
and facilities to make life comfortable.
Peñiscola is a local Spanish seaside town which is perfectly located to
enjoy this impressive stretch of coastline. The history of Peñiscola
goes back to the Moorish occupation of Spain and the Reconquest in the
Middle Ages. The castle has been used as a fortress for many centuries
and provides a focal point for the area being located on a rocky
outcrop seen for miles around.
The village has a wide range of shops and these include: Mercadona
(just 0.5 km away), several local supermarkets, a fish mongers,
butcher, baker, vegetable store, drugstore and many more.
Peñiscola and the local beaches attract tourists (mainly Spaniards from
the inland areas) who are coming for the beautiful beaches and a more
relaxed holiday environment. The most beautiful beach is located to the
north, gradually running into the sea and is about 5 kilometres long.
The calm water is perfect for swimming and there are many sports such
as sailing, canoeing and volleyball. The beach has been awarded the
Blue Flag, and there are lifeguards present.
There is a beautiful palm tree lined promenade and this makes for an
ideal way to stroll along the coast and enjoy the views and fresh air.
The south coast is more rocky interspersed with small coves and
beaches.
The National Park Sierra de Irta is located south of Peñiscola and the
mountains here reach to the sea, punctuated by deserted bays. It is a
rugged natural area with wilderness, many migratory birds,
archaeological sites and castle ruins, such as the castles of Alcala
and of Magdalena de Pulpis built by the Moors. From the castle ruins of
Alcala you have a breath-taking view of the valley and the sea. There
are several well-marked hiking and biking trails, short to very long.
There are many popular places within the region to see and do – all
within 45 mins drive away…
La Senia – a beautiful reservoir popular for fishing and a picnic and
restaurant Font the San Pere in old watermill.
Ulldecona is a little further away where you will find restaurant Les
Moles which has a Michelin star and is very much a destination
restaurant.
Morella a walled town with imposing fortress.
The historic town of Sant Mateu is a world heritage site with a
stunning church, Roman columns and wonderful market square filled with
bars and restaurants. Close to the town you find restaurant Farga in
the Ermita from where you have a magnificent view of the region.
For football fans, the local club is Villarreal who play in the top
level of the Spanish league (La Liga). They play in an English style
stadium where you are close to the field (El Madrigal) and all the
action.
For golf lovers there is Panoramica Golf, a local course and the only
one in Spain designed by the German pro Bernhard Langer. It is an
exceptional golf course which has hosted numerous events at national
and international level for professional and amateur golf players. Most
recently the European Tour Qualifying School. The design of the course
with its stunning lakes gives you a good quality golf course that is
well maintained throughout the year.
